  1. FALSE BAY TVET COLLEGE

POST 1: LECTURER (PL1): MATHEMATICS/ MATHEMATICAL LITERACY (NCV)

LOCATION: KHAYELITSHA, WESTERN CAPE

Minimum Requirements for the Post:

  • A recognised academic qualification (at least REQF 13: matric + 3 years), with Mathematics taken to at least 2nd year level
  • A recognised teaching qualification for teaching at FET/Grade 10 – 12 level

Responsibilities:

  • Scheduled teaching contact hours (including practical instruction, mentoring and support for Mathematics & Mathematical Literacy to NCV level 2-4 students
  • Provide academic support to students to ensure improvement of the Mathematics & Mathematical Literacy
  • Marking, assessing, invigilating, extra mural activities, setting assessments
  • All relevant administrative duties associated with the programmes
  • Administration (Class registers, lesson plans)
  • Professional duties (Meetings, workshops, official college functions, seminars, conferences, etc)
  • Active involvement in broader curriculum and campus-related activities

Recommendation:

  • Experience teaching Mathematics at Grade 10 – 12 level/NQF level 2-4
  • Experience teaching Mathematical Literacy at Grade 10 – 12 level/NQF level 2-4
  • Computer literate
  • Experience teaching at a TVET college
  • Good administrative and organisational skills

POST 2: LECTURER (PL1): INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (NCV)

POST TYPE: PERMANENT

LOCATION: FISH HOEK, WESTERN CAPE

Minimum Requirements for the Post:

  • Relevant Degree or Diploma in IT
  • Training, teaching or facilitating experience
  • Language proficiency in English

Responsibilities:

  • Scheduled teaching contact hours (including practical instruction, mentoring and support)
  • To teach Multimedia Basic, Multimedia Content, Multi Media Services, Information Systems and Electronics
  • Extra and co-curricular duties
  • Administration (Class registers, lesson plans)
  • Professional duties (Meetings, workshops, official college functions, seminars, conferences etc)
  • Invigilating
  • Planning, preparation and evaluation
  • Marking test/exam papers
  • Professional development

Recommendation:

  • A relevant teaching qualification
  • A BSC degree
  • Registered Assessor and/or Moderator: NCV IT & HC ICT: ITSM
  • Knowledge of .asp, .net, css, JavaScript, HTML, PHP, SQL, Photoshop, Flash, Illustrator
  • Experience soldering electronic circuits
  • Experienced in storytelling, sound (production & editing), photography & editing, computer-based production of 3D graphics/animation
  • Experienced with editing videos & moving pictures, electronic publication, producing multimedia products, planning multimedia content
  • Experience teaching in the TVET sector

Minimum Requirements for the Post

  • At least a relevant recognized three-year qualification (REQV13)
  • Qualification in education and training
  • Qualified to lecture in subjects in the relevant programme
  • At least 2 years’ educational experience
  • SACE registration
  • Bilingual: Ability to teach in English and Afrikaans
  • Proven computer training in MS Office
  • Good administrative skills
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to assess and moderate
  • A valid driver’s license

Duties and responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for lecturing the following subjects and/ or any other subjects if required:

  • Management Communication N4
  • Communication N4

Recommendations:

  • Registration as an Assessor/Moderator
  • TVET sector experience
  • Teaching or Training experience in an industrial environment
  • Experience in working with visually impaired students

Minimum Requirements for the Post

Duties:

  • Facilitate general academic and career development of students.

  • Assess students, maintain assessment records and capture marks electronically in compliance with the College’s policies and procedures.
  • Create a conducive classroom environment and ensure efficient classroom management and discipline of student’s.
  • Report to the Senior Lecturer and liaise with the Student Support Officers in providing support interventions to students.
  • Distribute textbooks and student packs to students and maintain the necessary records.
  • Manage and monitor student attendance, and organize job placement and excursions for students

  • National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree majoring in Mathematics.

  • Experience; working at a TVET College in the teaching discipline and learning will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to analyse, interpret policies and develop guideline to support students at the Campus.
  • Good communication and writing skills.
  • Computer literacy skill is recommended.
  • Ability to work in a team and under pressure.
  • A minimum of 1 year teaching experience of the subject will be an added advantage.
  • Registered with SACE.

Duties:

  • To engage in class teaching.
  • To plan, co-ordinate, control, administer, evaluate and report on students’ academic progress.
  • To enhance learning as an active process and be prepared to use a variety of strategies to meet the subject and learning outcomes of the curriculum.
  • To create and maintain classroom environment that stimulates positive learning and actively engage students in the learning process.
